Two University of Wyoming freshmen football student-athletes have been named to the Sporting News 2006 Freshman All-American Team. Wyoming redshirt freshman quarterback Karsten Sween and true freshman place-kicker Aric Goodman were both named Honorable Mention Freshman All-Americans by the publication.

Sween started the last seven games of the 2006 season for the Cowboys, and posted a 5-2 record as a starter. He completed 128 of 212 passes for 1,304 yards, nine touchdowns and had only eight passes intercepted. The freshman signal caller helped Wyoming post a 6-6 overall record, 5-3 in the Mountain West Conference to tie Utah for third place.

Goodman led Wyoming in scoring as a true freshman, scoring 48 total points. He made 62.5 percent of his field-goal attempts (10 of 16), including a career best 52-yard field goal that ended up being the game winner in a 27-24 victory over San Diego State.

Sween and Goodman were two of only eight Mountain West Conference freshmen to earn the honor. The other MWC selections were: Ryan Wolfe, UNLV, WR, Second Team: Jan Jorgensen, BYU, DL, Third Team; Donovan Porterie, New Mexico, QB, Honorable Mention; Atiyyah Henderson, San Diego State, RB, Honorable Mention; Jason Beauchamp, UNLV, LB, Honorable Mention; and Nick Sanders, TCU, DB, Honorable Mention.
