2005-06 (Redshirt Senior): Back from injury, Brunk provided the Cowboys with steady play in all five events during the fall '05 season. As a proven golfer in the MWC, Brunk will give UW a boost in their quest for postseason play. Matthew is a hard-working player with a consistent swing, and is one of several Pokes that could be UW's top finisher in any given event. 2004-05 (Senior): After a strong opening tournament, Brunk injured his wrist and missed the remainder of the season. He was awarded a medical hardship year and took his redshirt season. Finished 11th at the AFA Falcon Invite, with a 69 in the final round. 2003-04 (Junior): Brunk led the Cowboys in lowest stroke average for the season, averaging 74.16 strokes per round. That average was nearly a full two strokes better than his sophomore season. He competed in all 11 season events, with the best UW scorecard in six of those tournaments. Brunk recorded three top 25 placings -- 19th at the Denver Ron Moore Classic, 24th at the MWC Championship and his best finish of the season, sixth at the Cowboy Classic. His second round score of 66 at the Cowboy Classic was a tournament low, as well as a career best for Brunk. 2002-03 (Sophomore): For the second consecutive season, Brunk posted his best tournament finish in the MWC Championship. The sophomore placed fourth in the MWC Championship with a career best tournament score of four-under par 212 for 54 holes. That was a remarkable finish for a sophomore in one of the toughest golf conferences in men's collegiate golf. He ranked second on the team in stroke average (76.0). Brunk posted a second top 25 finish for the season at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic, where he placed 13th out of 58 individuals. 2001-02 (Freshman): Brunk stepped right into the Cowboy lineup as a true freshman. The left-hander competed in all 10 of Wyoming's 2001-02 tournaments. He carded his best performance at the year's final event -- the Mountain West Conference Championship. Brunk shot a then career best four-over par total of 220 to tie for 13th out of 40 competitors. He improved in each round of the MWC Championship, shooting rounds of 76, 73 and 71, respectively. Brunk was a key to Wyoming tying for fifth in the 2002 MWC Championship. High School: Brunk earned All-Conference honors both his junior and senior seasons at Fort Collins High School in Fort Collins, Colo. He also captained the squad his senior year, leading the Lambkins to the Regional and State Championships. An excellent student, Brunk was Honorable Mention Academic All-Conference his two years in Fort Collins, and was a member of the National Honor Society. His high school golf coach was John Gausman.
