2008-09 (Sophomore): During the fall of 2008, Maier played in all five tournaments for the Cowboys. His highest finish came during the first event of the fall, where he tied for 17th in the Air Force Falcon Invitational. In that tournament, he shot a three-round total of 218 (+2). He shot three rounds of par or better golf in the fall, marking the ninth, 10th and 11th time he has done so in his young career. He carried a 76.40 stroke average through the fall of his sophomore year.

2007-08 (Freshman): As a true freshman, Maier was the Cowboys' most consistent player with a team best stroke average of 74.66. He played all 13 events of his freshman season, while finishing in the top-25 in five of those tournaments. His lowest round of the season was a 69 (-3) at the BYU Cougar Classic in the spring. On the season he shot eight rounds of par or better golf. His best tournament finish came at the prestigious New Mexico Tucker Invitational, where he finished 15th with a three-round score of 220 (+4). His second best tournament finish came at the Nelson Invitational, where he finished 17th with a score of 228 (+15). At the 2008 Mountain West Conference Championships, Maier was the Cowboys' top finisher as he placed 18th with a score of 218 (+5). Maier contributed in Hawaii to the Cowboys recording the third-best team round in school history, 278 (-10), and the third-best team event total at UW, 859 (-5). Maier also excelled in the classroom and was named Academic All-Mountain West Conference.

High School: In 2006, Maier placed third at the Wyoming 4A State Championship as a senior. He also placed third at the state tournament as a junior. Gabe was a three-time All-Conference and All-State selection, as well as his high school team's MVP for three years. He played well on a national junior level, earning the distinction of Pepsi Junior Series Player of the Year in the Rocky Mountain Region during the summer of 2006. Gabe was a Junior America's Cup team member in 2006 and played in the Westfield Junior PGA Championships. In 2005 he made the cut at the Canadian National Junior Championship, the only 16-18 year old American to do so. Maier earned letter awards four years in golf and also lettered on the Cody HS hockey team as a junior.

Personal: Gabe was born in Mount Vernon, Wash. on Nov. 10, 1988. His mother is Coletta Maier and he is the youngest of three children. Gabe is undeclared on a major within the College of Business at UW. He is left-handed.
