2003-04 (Freshman): Canadian Dave Stewart has been thrust into collegiate golf as a true freshman, one of only five Cowboys able to participate this past fall. Utilizing his opportunity to play, Stewart had some solid rounds while playing in all five fall '04 tournaments for UW. His low round came during the second round of the Louisville Intercollegiate, a 71. His best tournament finish was 24th of 66 at the Nebraska Fairway Club Invitational. High School: An accomplished junior golfer, Stewart had a wealth of international experience. Twice in 2002, he was selected by the Royal Canadian Golf Association (RCGA) to represent Canada in international competitions, traveling to San Diego, Calif., and to Dublin, Ireland. He was one of only 12 junior golfers in Canada to be invited to the RCGA developmental camp in Vancouver in 2003. In 2000, Stewart was one of 10 individuals that represented the Canadian Junior Golf Association (CJGA) at a competition in St. Andrews, Scotland. In 2001, Stewart qualified as an individual for the Junior World Championships in San Diego. He represented the province of Saskatchewan for three years (2000, '01 and '02) at the Canadian Junior Championships. When he signed with Wyoming, Stewart was the No. 1 ranked junior in Saskatchewan and the 29th top junior in all of Canada by the RCGA. For six consecutive years, Stewart won the Saskatchewan Provincial Championship in his age group. He also captured the Provincial High School Golf Championship and his Carlton High School squad won the team title in 2002. Carlton was the runner-up in 2003. A multi-sport athlete, he lettered in golf, volleyball and basketball his sophomore through senior seasons. His volleyball team won the 2002 Provincial Championship, and his basketball team captured the Provincial Small Cities Championship that same year. His high school golf coach was Tim Braaten. Stewart was named the 2003 Prince Albert Athlete of the Year. An outstanding student, Stewart earned honor roll status throughout his high school career. Personal: Born Oct. 2, 1985. He is the son of Ron and Carla Stewart, and has an older sister Amy. Stewart was also recruited by Denver, UTEP and Arizona State. He is majoring in Kinesiology and Health Promotion. |
