Laramie, Wyo. -- The University of Wyoming men's golf team opened its second tournament of the spring season with 36 holes of golf Thursday at the Bite/Pacific Pacific Coast Intercollegiate hosted by the University of California-Santa Barbara.

Wyoming shot a two-round team total of 612 to settle for 20th place heading into Friday's final round at the La Purisima Golf Course in Lompoc, Calif.

Senior Mike Urbatchka and sophomore Mike Mezei paced the Cowboys, each firing a two-round total of 149 to tie with four other golfers in 38th place.

"I feel really pleased with how the kids played today," UW head coach Joe Jensen said. "We had some long stretches of really solid golf where we played very well, but we struggled a little down the stretch.

"We easily could have been five or 10 shots better," Jensen added. "We're hitting the ball good and playing very well overall. We just need to clean up the little things at the end of the round and close stronger."

Mezei stood at five-under par with five holes left in Thursday's second round before hitting a rough stretch and finishing with an even-par round of 72, while Urbatchka three-putted three of the final six holes to card a three-over 75.

"This course is really tough, shooting even par is a heck of a round," Jensen said. "Both of those guys hit the ball really well. We just need to put a full round together."

The La Purisima course measured 6,603 yards and played to a par of 72.

Below are team scores and Wyoming's individual scores following Thursday's first and second rounds.
