LARAMIE, Wyo. -

Looking to continue an excellent spring season, the University of Wyoming men's golf team shot a 36-hole total of 582, six-over par, on Monday and finds itself in second place at the Idaho State University Bengal Invitational. Wyoming is only four strokes back of host Idaho State, which shot a two-round score of 578, two-over par.

Once again, junior David Hearn is Wyoming's top individual heading into Tuesday's final 18-hole round. Hearn shot rounds of 72-72 to record an even-par total of 144 after 36 holes. Hearn is tied with Ryan Benzel of Idaho State and Mickey Cereghino of Boise State for fourth. They are one stroke back of Blake Allman and Preston Hafer of Idaho State, who are tied for second place at 143. Hearn is only four shots back of the tournament leader, Brian Hughes of Portland State, who fired a four-under par total of 140.

All five of Wyoming's individuals enter Tuesday's final round in the Top 20 out of 55 golfers. UW's Mike Urbatchka is tied for seventh at 146. Kevin Kayden sits in a tie for 10th at 147. Jake Hunter is tied for 18th at 149, and Reid Lende is tied for 20th with a 36-hole score of 150.

"We came back in the second round and shot a pretty good round of 283," said UW men's golf coach Roger Prenzlow. "Our opening round put us in the middle of the pack, but the guys turned it up in the afternoon round and put us back in a position to win the tournament. We need to have someone shoot a really low round tomorrow, and have a couple of other guys shoot pretty good rounds to win.

"When you come into a tournament you always expect the home team to be tough, and Idaho State will be tough to beat tomorrow. We came to this tournament knowing it was important for our confidence to play some good golf and then use that to build on for the BYU tournament later this week. If we come out Tuesday and play another solid round like we did this (Monday) afternoon, it will be a positive experience for us."

Wyoming's second round score of 283 is the best of the tournament thus far, besting Idaho State's opening round of 288 by five strokes.

The 54-hole event is being played on the Blackfoot Golf Course in Blackfoot, Idaho. The course measures 6,722 yards and plays to a par of 72.

Below are the first day's team scores, as well as Wyoming's individual scores. The tournament concludes with a final 18-hole round on Tuesday, April 18.

Following the Idaho State Bengal Invitational, Wyoming will travel to Provo, Utah, for the Brigham Young Cougar Classic on Friday and Saturday, April 21-22.
