The University of Wyoming Cowboy golf team completed their first tournament of the season on Sunday morning at the Air Force Falcon Invitational in Colorado Springs, Colo.

With a final round team score of 302 (+14), the Pokes dropped one spot and finished in 15th place of 18 schools participating. Wyoming shot scores of 303 (+15) and 295 (+7) on Saturday.

"This tournament certainly gave us something to build from," said Cowboy head coach Joe Jensen. "As a team we struggled around the greens, but hopefully overall the event gave us some much needed experience."

The Falcon Invitational was the first collegiate competition for five Cowboys; redshirt freshman Aaron Johnson and true freshmen Phil Henzlik, Gabe Maier, Mike May and Zach Zaremba.

UW's best event finish came from Maier (Cody, Wyo.) who shot a final round of 71 (-1) and tied for 32nd in the field of 100 golfers with a three-round total of 221 (+5).

Wichita State and Iowa State tied for first place in the team standings at 852 (-12), with Wichita State winning in a playoff. The Shocker's Ryan Spears won the individual competition at 203 (-13).

The 39th annual, 54-hole AFA Invite was held at the Eisenhower Golf Club - Blue Course, par 72 and measuring 7,301 yards.

Wyoming's squad will be right back at it later this week when they travel to the University of New Mexico/Tucker Invitational, Sept. 14-15 in Albuquerque, N.M.
