Sept. 21, 2001
LARAMIE, Wyo. -
Returning to competition for the first time in 10 days, the University of Wyoming men's golf team shot a two-round total of 608 on Friday and finished in a tie for 16th place at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate. Cowboy senior Mike Urbatchka led all Wyoming golfers after shooting a 75 and 74 for a two round total of 149. Urbatchka sits in a tie for 36th place heading into the final round of competition on Saturday. "Our freshman guys really got introduced to a major college tournament today and I feel they did a great job," said Wyoming head golf coach Roger Prenzlow. "As soon as they get their legs under them and get a little more comfortable playing at this level we will be a good team again. It seems like this team needs to play just one good round to get them on track." Host school New Mexico is leading the team standings with a total of 572. Southeastern Louisiana University's Andy Smith is leading the individual standings with a score of 139. The tournament is being played at the University of New Mexico Championships Course in Albuquerque, N.M. The course measures 7,253 yards and play to a par of 72. The Pokes will conclude the tournament on Saturday with one final round of play.
