Sept. 22, 2001
LARAMIE, Wyo. -
The University of Wyoming Cowboy golf team shot a final round team total of 298 on Saturday placing them 15th at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate golf tournament in Albuquerque, N.M. Cowboy senior Mike Urbatchka shot a final round 73 and led all UW golfers with a three-round total of 222 placing him in a tie for 29th-place. Sophomore Mike Mezei was the next highest finisher for the Pokes placing in a tie for 37th (223). "The guys put together a nice competitive round today," said Wyoming head coach Roger Prenzlow. "Both Mike's (Urbatchka and Mezei) and Kurt (Kowaluk) all stood up and played good rounds and actually all had a chance to shoot under par. We needed one good round to springboard us into the next tournament and we got that so hopefully we have a good week of practice and we'll come out and put some good numbers on the board next week." The University of New Mexico won the tournament with a total score of 859. Brigham Young's Manuel Merizalde placed first individually with a score of 209. The tournament was played at the University of New Mexico Championship Course. The course measured 7,253 yards and played to a par of 72. Wyoming Individual Results
