Michael Mezei Signs With Wyoming Cowboy Golf Program
May 26, 2000 LARAMIE, Wyo. -
University of Wyoming men's golf coach Roger Prenzlow announced on Friday that Michael Mezei of Lethbridge, Alberta, has signed a national letter of intent with the Cowboy golf team. Mezei, 5-10, 160 pounds, brings a number of accomplishments with him to Wyoming. He won the Alberta PGA Junior Master's title, and also placed fifth at the American Junior Golf Association Western Canadian Invitational. Mezei also was a member of the Alberta Provincial Team, which is comprised of the top junior golfers from the province of Alberta. He also was selected to the Alberta Junior America's Cup Team. "Michael (Mezei) is the caliber of player who could come in and play for us right away," said Prenzlow. "He has great fundamentals, is a very intelligent young man and is very competitive. He has really showed a lot of improvement over the last couple of years, and we're extremely excited he's decided to become a Cowboy." Mezei attended Winston Churchill High School in Lethbridge, Alberta. He plans on majoring in chemical engineering at UW. The son of Peggy and Gerry Mezei, he was also recruited by the University of Louisville and the University of Oregon. Mezei will join two other Canadians on the Cowboy golf squad. David
Hearn of Brantford, Ontario, will be a senior this coming year, and Kurt
Kowaluk of Lively, Ontario, will be a redshirt sophomore.
