July 12, 2000 LARAMIE, Wyo. -
University of Wyoming men's golfers Jake Hunter and Reid Lende have both been selected by the Golf Coaches Association of America as National Scholar-Athletes for the 1999-2000 academic year. Hunter, a junior from Page, Ariz., achieved a 3.32 cumulative grade-point average in business administration. Lende, a senior from Livingston, Mont., earned a 3.26 cumulative gpa in elementary education. "Both Jake (Hunter) and Reid (Lende) deserve a great deal of credit for the hard work and dedication they've put into their academics," said UW men's golf coach Roger Prenzlow. "It's a huge challenge to manage the demands of college academics and athletics. To succeed both in the classroom and on the golf course is a very difficult challenge, and both Jake and Reid were able to accomplish that." Hunter and Lende both played on all 12 tournaments for the Cowboys
during the 1999-2000 season. Hunter tied with teammate Mike Urbatchka for
the individual title at the St. John's University Intercollegiate, helping
lead Wyoming to the team title. Lende's top finish came at the Air Force
Falcon Invitational, where he placed eighth and helped the Cowboys finish
second out of 24 teams.
