Wyoming Places 14th out of 23 Teams at Tucker Invitational: University of Wyoming senior David Hearn shot a three-round total of 223 (+7) placing him in a tie for 43rd to lead all Cowboy golfers at the William Tucker Invitational, held at The Championship Course in Albuquerque, N.M., on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 15-16.

As a team, the Pokes shot a combined team score of 901 (+37), to place 14th in the 23-team field. Brigham Young University won the tournament with a 54-hole team total of 861, three under par. The Cougars edged second-place UNLV by two strokes. The victory for BYU was its second consecutive at the Tucker Invitational.

Billy Harvey of BYU took top individual honors with a three-round total of 207 (-9). UNLV's Calvin Kupeyan finished in second with a score of 211 (-5).

UW senior Jake Hunter and freshman Mike Mezei both finished tied for 69th with a score of 227 (+11). Mike Urbatchka placed tied for 75th shooting a 228, and Kurt Kowaluk finished tied for 81st with a score of 230 to round out the scoring for Wyoming.

"The guys never really seemed to get too comfortable on the greens," said UW head coach Roger Prenzlow. "It was tough to practice for the greens here because they are so big. We missed a lot of puts we should have hit. However, the guys bounced back today and we played a little bit better than we did on Friday."

Wyoming defeated Mountain West Conference opponents Air Force, Colorado State and Utah.

The Cowboys next tournament is the Colorado State Ram Invitational in Fort Collins, Colo., Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 25-26.
