Cowboys Win New Mexico State Invitational, Mike Urbatchka Finishes Third: The Wyoming Cowboys won their second golf tournament of the 2000 fall season when they captured the New Mexico State Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 7. UW shot a 54-hole total of 862 to defeat Arkansas-Little Rock by one stroke. Wyoming was led by junior Mike Urbatchka, who placed third with a three-under par total of 213. UW senior David Hearn placed fifth with a two-under total of 214. "Mike (Urbatchka) and David (Hearn) played very good golf this week," said UW men's golf coach Roger Prenzlow. "They made a lot of shots, and played consistently throughout the two days. "All in all, everyone on our team played well. We made birdies when we needed to, and did everything we've been talking about and practicing. It's sure good to see everyone with a smile on their face as we get ready to travel home. This is a big win for our program." In addition to Urbatchka and Hearn, senior Jake Hunter placed 17th with a 218, two-over par. Freshman Mike Mezei was one stroke back of Hunter at 219 to place 25th, and redshirt sophomore Kurt Kowaluk shot a 228 to finish 56th in the field of 89 golfers. The tournament was played on the University Golf Course in Las Cruces, N.M. The course played to a par of 72 and measured 7,017 yards. The Cowboys captured their own Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate on Sept. 10, 2000, for their first tournament win of the fall. Wyoming now has two tournament victories in four fall tournaments this season. Wyoming concludes the 2000 fall schedule on Oct. 27-29 at the Stanford Nelson Classic in Palo Alto, Calif.
