He appeared in five duals for the Pokes and earned a 5-3 record versus Western Wrestling Conference opposition. He placed in four tournaments, including a second-place honor in the Northwest Open at 157 pounds. 2010-11: Friesth redshirted his first season in the UW program while competing in six open tournaments at 157 pounds. He had a 23-6 overall record, including 8-1 against the WWC, to go with five major decisions, four pins and three technical falls. Friesth started 2010-11 on a strong note with a second at the Northwest Open and third at the Cowboy Open with a combined 11-2 record, but failed to place in the Kaufman-Brand and UNK Loper opens. He rebounded in the New Year and finished the 2010-11 campaign with titles at the Utah Valley and Rocky Mountain opens. He won his final nine matches of the season. High School: Friesth attended Adel-DeSoto-Minburn High School where he placed fifth at the state tournament as both a junior and senior. His high school record during those two years was 81-10 and he was conference champion as a senior. He was an Honor Roll student all four years and also played soccer as a senior. Personal: Friesth was born in Ames, Iowa, on Nov. 5, 1991. He is one of five children of Greg Friesth and Charlotte Jensen. His siblings are Brittany, Casey, Even and Anna.
