Ben VomBaur is entering his third year as an assistant coach with the Wyoming Cowboys. VomBaur was a two-time All-American at 125 pounds for Boise State University. In his three years with the program, 2001-03, he placed fourth at the NCAA Tournament in 2002 and sixth in 2003, and was a Pac-10 conference champion in both 2001 and 2003. Prior to attending Boise State, VomBaur spent a year at Clackamas Community College in Oregon City, Ore., where he was an NJCAA All-American, placing third at Nationals. VomBaur came to Wyoming from Wasatch High School in Heber City, Utah, where he coached the wrestling team to back-to-back Utah state championships. He coached seven individual state high school champions over two years. VomBaur was also active in the wrestling community as a club coach, camp director and instructor. Still a competitor himself, VomBaur qualified for and competed at the World Team Trials in the summer of 2007 where he posted two wins and two losses. He currently trains and competes in U.S. and international freestyle competitions. A dominant prep wrestler, VomBaur went a perfect 102-0 in his high school career at Evergreen High School in Vancouver, Wash. and was a three-time state champion. VomBaur has acquired many contacts in the western states over the years and has been instrumental in recruiting quality wrestlers to the University of Wyoming. He was very involved in last year's recruiting class, which has received national recognition from multiple publications. Most notably were national rankings from W.I.N. Magazine and IntermatWrestle.com, both ranking the UW recruiting class #11 in the country. Ben married his wife Kelli on March 28, 2000, in Anacortes, Wash. Ben and Kelli have three sons, William (8), Vance (5), and Drake (1). VomBaur received a bachelors of science degree in secondary education from Boise State University in 2003. |
