2009-10: Cory VomBaur is a three-time NCAA qualifier who has been a steady contributor for the Cowboys over the course of his career. He will start the year at 141 pounds after spending most of his four previous seasons in the 133-pound weight class. VomBaur is ranked No. 20 at 141 pounds by W.I.N. Magazine prior to the season. As one of only two seniors on the team, he will be looked to as a leader on the mat for the Cowboys. VomBaur put himself in a good position at the end of last season and he will try to continue that momentum into this year. He is one of seven `Pokes from Washington state. His career record is 63-46. 2008-09: For the third straight year, VomBaur qualified for the NCAA Tournament at 133 pounds. This time he earned an automatic bid by winning his weight at the West Regional/WWC Tournament. The previous two years he had made the trip via wild card selection. As a junior, VomBaur also got his first NCAA tournament victory. He had an overall record of 28-14, 13-4 in duals and 6-0 in the WWC. VomBaur had five wins by major decision and a 4-2 upset victory over No. 16 T.J. Dillashaw of Cal State Fullerton to his credit. He was a First Team All-WWC honoree. Maintaining his solid academic status, VomBaur was named to the WWC Coaches' Honor Roll. 2007-08: For the second straight year, VomBaur was an NCAA qualifier at 133 pounds. He finished second at the West Regional and was named Second Team All-WWC. Cory had an overall record of 20-17, was 6-6 in duals and scored four major decisions. He placed second at Kaufman Brand Open, fourth at the Cowboy Open and sixth at the Midlands Nationals. A good student, VomBaur was on the WWC Comissioner's Honor Roll for his academic efforts. 2006-07: VomBaur stepped up in a big way as a redshirt freshman for the Cowboys with a 17-15 record and becoming an NCAA Tournament qualifier at 133. He recorded one pin and was third on the team in overall victories and third in dual wins with nine. He took second place honors at the Western Regional Tournament. 2005-06: VomBaur used `05-06 as his redshirt year. He looked strong in his open wrestling matches in which he recorded 21 wins and only nine losses. High School: VomBaur won the 2005 Washington state championship at 130 pounds his senior year and was a two-time runner-up as a freshman and a junior. As a freshman, he wrestled at 103 pounds and wrestled at 125 pounds as a junior. He posted an overall high school record of 132-13 while at Evergreen High School. His senior year he was selected as a team captain. Personal: Born July 6, 1986 in Portland, Ore. He is the youngest of four children of William and Karen VomBaur.
