Cowboys Rout Portland State, 45-0

Portland, Ore. - The University of Wyoming wrestling team dominated all ten matches against the Portland State Vikings Friday night in Portland en route to a 45-0 victory. The Pokes took three matches by pin and three by major decision to improve their season dual record to 5-3. The Pokes scored big in the first match of the contest when 141 pound senior Blake Gunter wasted no time with Portland State's Josh Carroll. Gunter took the bout by pin in 1:57 to record his fourth fall of the season. The pin put Wyoming up 6-0. UW's Patrick Shuler would put the Pokes up 9-0 with a 4-3 decision over Eddie Dablen of Portland State. At 157 pounds, redshirt freshman Gary Dack outscored PSU's Derrick Bollier 11-2 for a Wyoming major decision and a 13-0 lead. Cowboy senior Trevor Murray improved Wyoming's lead to 16-0 with a 12-6 decision over Devin Mar at 165 pounds. In the 174 pound bout redshirt freshman Josh Prevost recorded his ninth victory of the season when he defeated Portland State's Nick Gomeza 11-0 major decision, improving UW's lead to 20-0. Wyoming got its second match win by pin in the 184 pound match as Cowboy Sam Wendland defeated Josh Gustatson in 4:47. Wendland improved his record to 11-10 on the season and made the Cowboy lead 26-0. Senior Kevin Kessner scored 10 points in the first period against PSU's Allen Kennett in the 197 pound. Kessner took the bout by major decision by a score 21-8. Kessner is now 3-0 on the season. In the heavyweight match, UW's Dusty Hoffschneider recorded the third Cowboy victory by pin. Hoffschneider took care of Steven Fittinger in 5:42. In the last match of the evening, 125 pound Bryce Leonhardt got his 17th victory of the season with a 8-5 decision over Zac Enoch of Portland State. The Vikings would forfeit the 133 match to make the final score 45-0 in favor of the Pokes. The Cowboys will be back in action on Saturday when they take on the
Oregon State Beavers at 1:00 p.m. in Corvallis, Ore.
