Davis, Calif. - The No. 25 Wyoming Cowboy wrestling team came back from a 15-3 deficit to beat the UC-Davis Aggies 20-19 Saturday night in Davis, Calf. The win improves UW's record to 9-5 on the season, while UC-Davis moves to 6-9 with the loss.

The Cowboys, who lost 18-17 to Fresno State Friday night, rallied with wins in the final two weight classes on Saturday night to score the come-from-behind win. Wyoming's Kevin Kessner, ranked 15th in the nation, beat Michael Clarkston of the Aggies by a 10-4 decision at 197 pounds to cut a UC Davis lead to 19-16.

Cowboy heavyweight Dusty Hoffschneider, ranked 16th nationally, picked up the deciding four points for the Pokes in the final period against UCD's Evan Hendrix. Hoffschneider turned a 5-1 lead into a 9-1 major decision that resulted in a 20-19 Cowboy victory.

UC-Davis opened the dual with a win in the 125 pound bout. Aggie Tommy Schurkamp defeated UW's Barrett Duell 11-5. In the 133 pound match UCD's Derek Moore pinned Tyson Shatto of Wyoming in less than a minute, putting UC Davis in front quickly 9-0.

UW senior Blake Gunter got Wyoming on the scoreboard with a 7-2 victory against Cris Brines at 141 pounds, UC Davis then opened a 15-3 lead after a Cowboy forfeit at 149 pounds.

No. 16 Andrew Shuler of Wyoming then beat 20th-ranked Jeremiah Jarvis of UC Davis by a score of 6-4 at 157 to bring the Pokes to within 15-6. Shuller's win improves his team leading record to 25-5, and increases his match win streak to 12.

In the 165 pound bout, 16th-ranked Levi Prevost defeated Michael Font of the Aggies by a score of 12-4. The victory earned Wyoming four team points with the major decision and cut the UC-Davis margin to 15-10.

Wyoming senior Trevor Murray cut the lead even more with a 3-2 victory over Frank Richmond, 3-2. Murray earned the match point by the time advantage, earning 3 minutes, 49 seconds of riding time.

Wyoming faced a 19-13 deficit before the final two matches of the night, which resulted in Wyoming victories by Kessner and Hoffschneider.

The Cowboys close the regular season on Wednesday, Feb. 25th when they host rival Air Force in the MultiPurpose Gym in Laramie at 7:00 p.m.
