Cowboy Wrestlers Look Strong In Intrasquad

LARAMIE, Wyo. - Wyoming Wrestling began the 2006-07 season Friday night with the team's annual intrasquad in the UniWyo Sports Complex. The Cowboys three NCAA qualifiers looked strong in their first matches of the year. Junior Carter Downing won both his matches by technical fall, 16-0 and 17-0. Junior Bryan Bernal also looked solid winning his match by major decision, 12-0. The match of the night belonged to redshirt senior Sam Wendland and freshman Jake Smith. Smith battled Wendland all three periods, but Wendland's strength and experience prevailed. Wendland defeated Smith 8-3. Sophomore Preston Pavich looked good defeating sophomore Chet Slevin 20-8. Freshman Nick Ramirez also wrestled well defeating sophomore Cody Grant 5-0. Wyoming will begin the regular season next week as they host the University of Oregon on Thursday, November 9 at 7 p.m. in the UniWyo Sports Complex. The Cowboys defeated the Ducks 30-2 last year in Eugene, Oregon. Results/Weight/Wrestlers/Score
