LARAMIE, Wyo. -

The University of Wyoming wrestling team opened its 2002-2003 season Friday at the annual Intrasquad Tournament at the War Memorial Fieldhouse.

A total of 15 matches were wrestled giving the Pokes their first live action of the season outside of practice. The meet also gave the Wyoming coaching staff a good look at the depth of most of the weight classes for the season. The tournament featured ten ranking matches and five out of weight matches.

Wyoming had strong performances from their upperclassmen, junior Kevin Kessner (197), junior Andrew Shuler (149) and senior Brad Steele (Hwt.) all won both of their matches. Sam Wendland (184 - freshman) also won two matches on the night. Other Cowboy wrestlers posting victories were junior Blake Gunter (141), freshman Jimmy Moore (165), freshman Josh Prevost (174) and freshman Trevor Murray (165).

The Cowboys will be back in action on Nov. 15 when they host the Boise State Broncos at 7 p.m. in the Multipurpose Gym.
