LARAMIE, Wyo. -

University of Wyoming head wrestling coach Steven Suder announced Friday the signing of Preston Pavich of Spearfish, S.D., to a national letter of intent.

Pavich was a two-time South Dakota All-State performer, placing second in the 189 pound weight class his junior year and fourth his senior season at Spearfish High School. He produced 30 win seasons his sophomore and junior seasons and a 43-4 record his senior campaign. He ended his high school career with 132 victories. During his wrestling career, Pavich has placed 1st at the Rocky Mountain Nationals and also won a South Dakota Freestyle Championship.

"My trip to Laramie went really well," said Pavich. "I was impressed with how much emphasis is placed on academics, and how the department provides such support. I meet coach Suder a year ago and liked what he stood for."

Pavich is a member of the Spearfish Honor Roll and plans on majoring in business while attending Wyoming. He is the son of Frank and Blendia Pavich of Spearfish.

"Preston put himself in the position, over the last couple of years, to be ready to make this step," said UW head wrestling coach Steven Suder. "His coach, Paul Soriano, wrestled here at UW and knows what it takes to be a Division I wrestler. Preston comes from a great support system and is ready to step into another one."
