LARAMIE, Wyo. -

University of Wyoming head wrestling coach Steven Suder has announced the hiring of Kevin Roberts as an assistant coach in the program. His hiring is subject to board of trustee approval.

Roberts comes to Wyoming from North Idaho College, where he was an assistant coach for two years. Roberts is a 1996 graduate of the University of Oregon with a degree in sociology. Roberts had an outstanding collegiate career for the Ducks. As a four-year letterwinner, Roberts was a two-time All-American in the 118 pound weight class. He placed fourth as a sophomore and eighth as a junior at the NCAA Wrestling Championships. In his senior year, Roberts was ranked as high as number two in his weight class, but a broken leg prematurely ended his career. Roberts won the 1996 University of Oregon Emerald Award, which recognizes an individual for outstanding student-athletic achievement. In addition, Roberts was named the Most Valuable Wrestler for the Ducks in 1994, 1995 and 1996.

A graduate of University High School in Spokane, Wash., Roberts was the Washington state champion in 1991 in the 115 pound weight class. Roberts also was a three-time Greater Spokane League champion. Roberts is married to the former Cami Moffat.

"Adding Kevin to this staff is a huge step," said Suder. "The experience he brings from both an athletic standpoint and from a coaching standpoint is considerable. His accomplishments as a wrestler at the Division I level and the tremendously strong program he comes from as a coach will without a doubt positively impact our program."
