Evanston, Ill. (December 30, 2003) -- University of Wyoming wrestler Andrew Shuler completed competition at the 2003 Midland Championships Saturday in Evanston, Ill. Shuler, a senior from Madison Heights, Va., posted a 2-2 record in the two day tournament improving his overall season record to 13-4. His 13 victories is the second best record on the Cowboy squad.

Shuler headed into the tournament ranked No. 15 in the nation according to Intermat Wrestling. In his first bout he defeated Brandon Kaufman of Harvard by a score of 7-0. In the round of 16 Shuler was defeated by No. 18 Paul Siemon of Hofstra 4-1. The senior would then bounce back and take down Matt McCarty of Michigan State 7-1. In his final bout, Shuler fell to Nick Baima of Northern Iowa by tie breaker, 5-5.

Shuler was the only Cowboy wrestler to compete in the tournament. The Cowboys are scheduled to compete at the 2004 Virginia Duals in Hampton, Va. Jan. 9-10.
