2010-11 (Senior): The only Wyoming senior during the 2010-11 campaign, Molly Black was a leader on the course and in the clubhouse for UW. She was one of only two Cowgirls to play in all 10 tournaments, and finished as UW's top competitor at five events. In 30 rounds of action, she averaged 76.9 strokes per round for the second-lowest average on the squad. Her low score of the season was a 228 (+12) at both the UNM/Dick McGuire Invite and Mountain West Conference Championship. Her highest finish of the season was a tie for 14th at the CU/Heather Farr Memorial and her season-low round was a 72 (E) in the first round of the UNLV Spring Invite. She was UW's second scorer at the MWC Championship. 2009-10 (Junior): Black's best finish of the season came in the first event, when she shot a 215(-1) in the Ptarmigan/Ram Fall Classic and finished tied for 11th place. She followed that up with a 227(+15) at Oregon State Giustina Memorial, which was good for 12th place. She also finished 31st in the Mountain West Championships, shooting a 248(+32). She tied for 45th in the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic. 2008-09 (Sophomore): During the fall of 2008, Black started the season out slow but picked it up toward the end. She ended the fall on a high note at the Bronco Fall Invitational in Boise, Idaho, with her 18th-place finish and 153(+9) for the tournament. The Cowgirls won the tournament for their first team title in 10 years. Black also was a big part of the record-setting efforts for the Cowgirls as they set the lowest team tournament score and lowest team round in the fall. 2007-08 (Freshman): Black immediately contributed as a true freshman in the fall to a Cowgirl squad that broke school records for team single round score and event total. She played in all five fall tournaments. Black is long off the tee and continued to grow her game after gaining valuable experience and confidence during the fall season. Her best finish came at the MDA Invitational where she finished 18th in a field of 84 golfers, totaling 233(+17). Black's low round of the fall also came at that event, a second-round score of 74(+2). During the spring, Molly played in three of seven tournaments, with her highest finish coming at the NAU/Red Rocks Invitational. She finished 62nd out of 90 players. For her accomplishments in the classroom, Black was named to the Academic All-MWC team in the spring. High School: Black was one of the most highly decorated golfers to come out of the Pacific Northwest in 2007. She played on the 2006 America's Cup Team, representing Oregon, and also represented her home state in the Trusted Choice Big I National Championship. During the summer of 2007, she played the Oregon Am and Pacific Northwest Golf Association's Women's Am, as well as being paired with Senior PGA Tour Professional Jay Haas at the Jeld-Wen Tradition's Junior Shoot-Out. In 2005, Black placed second at the girl's PNGA Championship and she participated in the 2006 Junior World Championship in San Diego, again representing the state of Oregon. Black lettered four times in golf at Summit High School. She was a four-year All-District and All-State selection, and led her team to the class 4A Oregon state title in 2006 and 2007. Her Summit High team won three straight district championships. Individually, Black was runner-up at state as a senior. She also was an excellent high school student who earned numerous academic accolades, including Academic All-State for four years. Personal: Molly is the daughter of Gordon and Rosalie Black, and has five siblings. Her sister Jessica played golf for Washington State University. Black chose to attend Wyoming over Oregon, Gonzaga and Fresno State. She is majoring in journalism at UW. |
