2004-05 (Senior): Shala Hanson continues to steadily improve and is working hard in this, her final collegiate season. As the only upperclassman on the roster, Hanson has a leadership role on the young Cowgirl squad. She has again lowered her stroke average, with a 81.71 mark in the fall of '04. Hanson played in all seven fall events and had her best round of 77 at the Denver Pioneer Intercollegiate. She led UW with the lowest scorecard of the team at the SDSU Lady Aztec Invitational.

2003-04 (Junior): Hanson had a very productive junior year. She lowered her stroke average by nearly a stroke from the prior year. She shot the lowest round of her college career, a 76 in two different rounds of the Colorado State Ptarmigan Ram Classic, and she posted the best tournament finish of her career -- a 19th place showing at the Cal Poly Invitational. Hanson played in nine of Wyoming's 10 season tournaments, posting the fourth best stroke average on the team at 81.71.

2002-03 (Sophomore): Hanson was one of only three Cowgirls to play in all 11 tournaments in the 2002-03 sesaon. Hanson, along with seniors Alison McGuire and Kim Nissen, were the only three team members who competed in every tournament for the Cowgirls. Hanson posted a stroke average of 83.2 for the season, ranking her third on the team. Twice Hanson finished 29th in a tournament -- at the Denver Pioneer Intercollegiate in the fall and the Montana State Bobcat Invitational in the spring. She shot her best individual round in the final round of the fall -- a 77 at the UNLV Intercollegiate.

2001-02 (Freshman): Hanson competed in four of 10 tournaments her freshman season, including three of the last four tournaments of the season. She recorded one Top 25 finish, placing 24th at the Inland Empire Intercollegiate co-hosted by Eastern Washington and Gonzaga.

High School: Hanson placed 13th at the state championships her junior year at Lakeridge High School in Lake Oswego, Ore., and was part of a team that captured the state title that same season. Her sophomore and senior years of high school, her Lakeridge High team placed second at state. A three-time all-conference selection, she was named team captain her junior and senior seasons. Hanson also was elected captain of her high school swimming team as a senior. As a swimmer, she earned All-Conference honors in both the 100 butterfly and 100 freestyle events. Hanson also competed on the water polo team. A National Honor Society member and Honor Roll student in high school, she earned Academic All-State honors all four years of high school. Her high school team was also recognized as earning the highest combined grade-point average of any sports team in the state for all four years she was in high school. In 1999, Hanson earned a scholarship to study in Austria. Coached in high school by Mark Wipf.

Personal: Born March 22, 1983, she was also recruited by Idaho and Ohio State for golf and the University of Indianapolis for swimming. Her parents are Colleen and Darrel Hanson. Hanson is majoring in marketing.
