Jill Rettinger has guided the University of Wyoming women's golf program for the past eight seasons. Rettinger was hired at Wyoming on May 21, 1997, after serving as assistant golf coach for both the men's and women's golf teams at Washington State University from August of 1994 through May of '97. In her first seven seasons as UW women's coach, Rettinger has built a program that has enjoyed numerous successes on the golf course and in the classroom. On the golf course, former Cowgirl and current LPGA Tour member Jordan (Lintz) Cherebetiu won the first-ever Mountain West Conference individual championship in 2000. In the spring of 2003, the UW women's golf program had two student-athletes, Alison McGuire and Kim Nissen, earn All-America Scholar honors from the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA). McGuire was also named a Third Team Academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). In all, Rettinger has coached six Academic All-Americans during her stint at UW. The Wyoming women's golf program achieved a 3.75 team grade-point average for the 2001 spring semester, and in 1999 former team member Jessica Mellinger was awarded a Rhodes Scholarship. Under Rettinger's direction the Cowgirl team also was awarded the Athletics Director Award in 2000-01. The annual award is based on athletic excellence, team GPA and community service. Rettinger is a native of Butte, Mont. After graduation from Butte High School, she played golf at Washington State from 1987-91. While in college, she earned Honorable Mention Academic All-Conference honors, and was a member of the Pacific-10 Conference All-Star Team that toured the Orient in 1988. Over a three-year period from 1989-91, she returned to her home state of Montana to capture the State Amateur Championship in 1990 and finished second in both 1989 and '91. Following college, she played on the Player's West Golf Tour for the 1992, '93 and '94 seasons. She is a Class A member of the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Teaching and Club Professional Division. At Washington State, Rettinger was involved in all aspects of managing a college golf program. She provided individual instruction to both men's and women's players. She coordinated practice and workout schedules. Rettinger also assisted with tournament scheduling, recruiting and budgeting, and helped coordinate team travel. In addition to her college coaching experience, Rettinger has served as an assistant golf professional at the Washington State University Golf Course, and as a staff assistant at the Butte Country Club in Butte, Mont.
