The senior was UW's top individual finisher at all four events, including two top-six finishes. In 11 rounds of action, she averaged 75.45 strokes per round. Rico posted her top performance of the fall with a third-place finish at the weather-shortened Nevada Wolf Pack Classic. She tied her career-best round with a 69 (-3) during the event. Rico followed that up with a 226 (+1) to tie for sixth place at the Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate. Her performance helped guide Wyoming to its first back-to-back, top-three team finishes under head coach Josey Stender. She placed 44th and 54th, respectively, at the CSU Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic and UNM/Dick McGuire Invitational to start the fall.
2010-11 (Junior): Wyoming's most consistent golfer during the season, Rico played in all 10 tournaments and finished as the top Cowgirl in six events, including the last four. In 30 rounds of action, she averaged a team-low 76.7 strokes per round and never finished outside UW's top four scorers. Her low score and high finish of the season was 219 (+3) to tie for 10th at the MountainView Collegiate. The finish was the highest for a Cowgirl during the season. She carded a season-low 70 (-2) during the third round of the BYU Entrada Classic. She was UW's top finisher at the Mountain West Conference Championship with a 226 (+10) to tie for 24th place. After the season, Rico was named to the Academic All-MWC team. 2009-10 (Sophomore): Rico's season got off to a rocky start, but she more than made up for it by the fourth event. After finishing no higher than 34th in the previous tournaments, she turned it on for a second-place showing at the Oregon State Guistina Memorial, shooting a 223(+7). She also led Wyoming at the Cowgirl Classic, shooting a 229(+13) in a tie for 25th. She shot a 238(+22) at the MWC Championships, which tied for 24th. After the season, Rico was named to the Academic All-MWC team. 2008-09 (Freshman): Rico started her first fall season a little slowly, but came on towards the end with three top-20 finishes. Her top finish of the season came at the Bronco Fall Invite where the Cowgirls finished first out of 12 teams and Rico finished 10th out of 69 individuals. Her best round came at the CU/Heather Farr Memorial, where her second round 69(-3) was tops for the Cowgirls, and helped lead the Cowgirls to their lowest team tournament score 891(+27). After the season, Rico was named to the Academic All-MWC team. High School: During the summer of 2008, Rico was the Provincial Champion of Alberta and finished 12th at the Royale Canadian Nationals. She also was in the top 25 at the Optimist International Championship. In November 2007, the Canadian Junior Golf Association (CJGA) awarded Rico its 2007 Helena Harbridge Sportsmanship Award. The award recognizes sportsmanship, dedication and commitment to the game of golf. During that season, Rico won two of the three CJGA tournaments in which she played and finished second in the third event. In 2007, she was also honored with the Alberta Junior Order of Merit award, as well as being named the Athlete of the Week by the Calgary CTV Channel. In 2005, she was the Champion in the Royale Canadian Junior Girls Championship Division for 15 year olds. Personal: Juanita was born Nov. 8, 1989, in Bogotá, Colombia. She is the daughter of Norberto Rico and Luisa Pardo. She is majoring in communications at UW. |
