LARAMIE, Wyo. -

Tara Ludwig shot rounds of 75, 81 and 82 for a 22-over par total of 238 and tied for 26th place at the 2002 East Carolina University Bradford Creek Invitational. In their first tournament of the 2002 spring season, the Wyoming Cowgirls placed 14th out of 16 teams on Tuesday, March 12.

Host East Carolina captured the team title on the strength of Jessica Krasny's five-over par total of 221. Krasny won the individual title, as her East Carolina team edged North Carolina-Wilmington by five strokes for the team championship -- 903 to 908.

Ludwig's tie for 26th place, in the field of 83 women's golfers, was the highest for her this season.

"Tara (Ludwig) really came out in the opening round and played excellent golf," said UW women's golf coach Jill Rettinger. "After that opening round, she settled in and played very consistent the final two rounds, shooting 81 and 82.

"It was good for us to play a tournament in a different part of the country. It gives us a chance to see some golf teams that we don't usually compete against. We weren't able to put up any really low scores this week, but it was our first competition of the spring, and not having the opportunity to play over the winter showed. I know the girls will continue to improve as the spring goes along. We just have to get more practice time outside and get more tournament rounds under our belt."

The Bradford Creek Invitational was played at the Ironwood Golf Course, which measured 6,093 yards and played to a par of 72.

Next up for the Wyoming Cowgirls will be the Oral Roberts Invitational in Tulsa, Okla., on Monday and Tuesday, March 18-19.
