UW Finishes Bearkat Invitational in 11th Place

LARAMIE, Wyo. -
The University of Wyoming women's golf team finished competition at the Bearkat Invitational Tuesday in Huntsville, Texas. The Cowgirls shot a three round total of 989 to finish the tournament in 11th place. Arkansas-Little Rock won the tournament with a three round total of 921. Wyoming's top individual finisher in the tournament was senior Allison McGuire who finished in a tie for 32nd place with a three day total of 245. Sophomore Shala Hanson trailed McGuire by just one stroke and finished in a tie for 36th with a total of 246. The best Cowgirl round was a four over par 76 shot by senior Kim Nissen on Tuesday. "We played so much better today," replied UW head coach Jill Rettinger. "We were a little disappointed after yesterday but we did a good job of coming back today. As a team we shot 24 strokes better than our second round yesterday. Our seniors really stepped up and their leadership took over. Overall, I am very pleased with the way we played today." The overall tournament champion was SMU's Missy Ryan who fired a three round total of 222. Ryan was four strokes better than the rest of the field. Amanda Fisher of Oral Roberts University placed second with a score of 226. The 2003 Bearkat Invitational was held at Del Lago Resort in Huntsville, Texas. The course measures at 5,867 yards and is a played to a par of 72. The Cowgirls will have nearly a month off before they return to action at the Brigham Young Dixie Classic. The tournament will be held in St. George Utah and will run from April 7-8. This will be the Cowgirls final tune-up before the Mountain West Conference Championships which will be held April 24-26 in Sunriver, Oregon.
