Good and Bad for Wyoming Women's Golf at Duck Invite

EUGENE, Ore. - It was two extremes for the Wyoming Cowgirl golf team on Monday at the Oregon Duck Invitational in Eugene, Ore. UW opened the day with their best round of the spring, a score of 308 (+20) in the morning, and then closed the day with their worst round of the spring, a mark of 325 (+37). Wyoming's 36-hole total of 633 (+57) is good for ninth place out of 15 teams with one round remaining to be played on Tuesday morning. Event-host Oregon, who is ranked No. 45 in the country, leads the field with their two-round mark of 606 (+30). UC Davis is only one stroke back in second place at 607 (+31). The top two are followed by a trio of Pac 10 schools; Washington State (612), as well as Washington and No. 16 ranked Cal (615). Wyoming was led by senior Laura Mengelkamp who recorded two solid rounds, 76 (+4) and 79 (+7), and is in a tie for 22nd place out of 81 golfers. Mengelkamp totaled 155 (+11), a mere four strokes out of the top-ten. UW sophomore Jonelle Martinez shot her season-best round of 74 (+2) in the morning, and has a 36-hole tally of 156 (+12). Only one stroke back of her is fellow second-year Cowgirl golfer Sarah Fogerty at 157 (+13). She scored 78 (+6) and 79 on Monday. Martinez is tied for 29th place, while Fogerty is tied for 31st. Oregon's Kendra Little is atop the individual leaderboard at 143 (-1). Washington State's Amy Eneroth is second with even-par 144, while her teammate Jessica Black is third at 147 (+3). The 54-hole event is being played at the Eugene Country Club, which measures 6,052 yards and is par 72.
