Nissen Paces Wyoming With a Top 20 Finish After Day One of the Utah Dixie Classic

LARAMIE, Wyo. -
The Wyoming Cowgirl golf team finished in the middle of the pack Monday at the Utah Dixie Classic, placing 13th out of 22 teams with a 27-hole total of 319 heading into the final round and a half of action Tuesday. Leading the way for the Cowgirls was junior Kim Nissen who finished the day tied for 18th after firing a 76, four-over par. UC-Irvine leads the team competition after shooting a 295, followed by Idaho in second with 299 and host Brigham Young in third with a 301. Irvine's Walailak Satarak leads the individual standings with a total score of 68, four-under par. Cowgirl senior Katherine Crowley also finished in the top 25 Monday after firing a 77, five-over par, sitting her in a tie for 25th place. Rounding out the scoring for UW was junior Alison McGuire who placed in a tie for 47th with a 79, sophomore Ashley Cariveau who placed in a tie for 99th after shooting an 87 and sophomore Aryn Cariveau who placed 111th with a score of 90. "I'm pleased with how the team came out and played today," said UW head women's golf coach Jill Rettinger. "I thought Kim (Nissen) really stepped things up and hit the ball real solid. Katherine (Crowley) and Alison (McGuire) also played very good for us. I feel we can move into the top ten tomorrow if we can continue to play with the consistency we showed today." The Utah Dixie Classic will conclude on Tuesday with the final 27-holes of competition. The Utah Dixie Classic is being played at the Sunbrook Golf Club in St. George, Utah.
