The University of Wyoming women's golf team is in fifth place, 315 strokes, at the Inland Empire Women's Intercollegiate in Post Falls, Idaho on Monday. Gonzaga is hosting the tournament, while the University of Idaho is leading an 11-team field with a score of 299.

UW freshman Laura Mengelkamp fired a first round, one-under score of 71 and is in fourth place of 63 individuals.

"The girls had a good round today and left themselves in position to move up in the team standings tomorrow," said UW head coach Jill Rettinger. "Laura played very steady and is in a spot where she can go out and try and win the tournament outright. She really bounced back from her final round in Denver."

Freshman Lindsay Bauknecht shot a round of 80 and is tied for 33rd. Sophomore Michelle Camaione scored 81 and sits tied for 37th. Senior Shala Hanson had an opening round of 83 and sophomore Whitney Hernandez shot 86.

Each team played five golfers and counted the four best scores.

The 36-hole Inland Empire Women's Intercollegiate at the Highlands Golf Course. The Highlands plays to a par of 72 and measures 5,977 yards.
