Oct. 3, 2001
LARAMIE, Wyo. -
Wyoming junior Kim Nissen recorded her first Top 25 finish of the 2001 fall season on Tuesday, as she tied for 18th at the University of Idaho Lady Vandal Fall Invitational. Nissen shot rounds of 78, 77 and 80 for a 235 total -- 19-over par. The Wyoming Cowgirls placed 10th in the field of 16 teams with a 977 team score.
Kim Welch of Washington State won the individual title with a 54-hole total of 221 -- five-over par. Host Idaho won the team championship by a wide margin over second place San Francisco. Idaho finished with an 898 total -- 22 strokes better than San Francisco's 920.
"I thought we did a much better job this week," said UW head women's golf coach Jill Johnson. "We certainly held our own. We put together more stretches of good holes.
"Kim (Nissen) had a very solid tournament. Katherine (Crowley) shot one of her best rounds ever in the second round on Monday, with a 76. It's great to have her back after missing last season due to a shoulder injury.
"We still left a lot of good shots out there, so we are going to get back and focus on our short games this week."
The 54-hole Lady Vandal Invitational was played on the University of Idaho Golf Course, which measured 6,107 yards and played to a par of 72.
The Cowgirls' next tournament will be Oct. 8 and 9 at the University of Colorado Heather Farr Memorial in Boulder, Colo. Wyoming Individual Results
