LARAMIE, Wyo. -
The University of Wyoming women's golf team concluded its 2002 fall season at the Las Vegas Collegiate Shootout on Wednesday. The Cowgirls shot a final round 329 to finish with a three-round total of 1010 to place 15th in the field of 15 teams. New Mexico won the team title by nine strokes over host UNLV. The Lobos finished with a 16-over par total of 880. UNLV fired a 25-over par total of 889. Wyoming's top individual finisher was freshman Bailey Adcock, who tied for 60th with a 31-over par total of 247. She concluded the tournament with a six-over par round of 78 on Wednesday. The low round of the tournament by a UW individual was a 77, fired by sophomore Shala Hanson in the final round. The individual championship ended in a three-way tie between Kristi Larsen of New Mexico, Nicole Melton of Texas A&M and Sunny Oh of UNLV. All three posted one-under par totals of 215 for the 54-hole tournament. "We improved each round of the tournament," said UW women's golf coach Jill Johnson. "Bailey (Adcock) had a nice final round, with a 78, and Shala (Hanson) shot her lowest round of the season with a 77 on Wednesday. Kim (Nissen) and Alison (Mcguire) didn't have the kind of week I know they were hoping for, but they've had an outstanding fall season. "Overall, I saw improvement by some of our younger players throughout the fall, and I know our seniors are looking forward to finishing up their careers in a positive way next spring." The Las Vegas Collegiate was played at the Anthem Country Club in Henderson, Nev. The course measured 6,194 yards and played to a par of 72. The Cowgirls will not return to action until Feb. 17-18 when they travel to San Diego for the San Diego State Lady Aztec Invitational.
