Wyoming Soccer Edged By UNLV at MWC Tournament

The third-seeded Rebels of UNLV (12-6-2) defeated the sixth-seeded Wyoming Cowgirls (4-11-3), 1-0, in the third quarterfinal match of the day at the 2001 Mountain West Conference Women's Soccer Championship at Peter Johann Memorial Field on the campus of UNLV. The Rebels took an early lead with a goal in the fifth minute by junior midfielder Christyn Enea and held on for remainder of the match to claim their first conference tournament victory in three seasons. UNLV senior goalkeeper Alice Gleason kept the Cowgirls at bay with four saves, while posting her fifth shutout of the season. The win was the Rebels 12th of the season, which is the most in the program's four-year history. UNLV also extended their current goal streak to a MWC-high 23 matches. The Rebels will face seventh-seed Air Force Thursday in the second semi-final match beginning at 7 p.m. Top-seed BYU will play No. 4 seed Utah in the first quarterfinal scheduled for 4 p.m.
