LARAMIE, Wyo. -

University of Wyoming freshman soccer standout, Kristin Stangl, was recently named to the Soccer Buzz Magazine Central Region All-Freshman team.

Stangl, a defender from Lone Tree, Colo., is the first ever Wyoming Cowgirl to be honored by Soccer Buzz.

This season, she started in eighteen games, scored three goals and had one assist en route to a first team All-Mountain West Conference Selection. Offensively, her best game of the season came in Wyoming's 3-1 victory over San Diego State when she scored the game winning goal and added an assist on the Cowgirls final goal. She ranked third on the team with a shot percentage of .250.

She helped lead the Cowgirls to a 10-9 overall record and a MWC mark of 4-2, the best finish in school history. The Cowgirls closed out MWC play in a second place tie with BYU, the best ever conference finish.

The Central Region is by far the largest of the six soccer regions, with a total of 67 schools.

The magazine has been awarding the nation's top players since 1996. Awards are decided by a vote open to all Division I head coaches and Soccer Buzz staff.
