Soccer Goes 2-1-1 Over Weekend Spring Games

Laramie, Wyo.-- The University of Wyoming Cowgirl soccer team played a pair of games in Colorado Springs, Colo. and at the Southern California Premier Tournament last weekend and finished with a record of 2-1-1. The Cowgirls played at Air Force last Friday sweeping Air Force and Colorado College. In the first match of the day, the Cowgirls beat Air Force 1-0 off of a goal by senior Lindsey Vossbrink. Senior Mari Gomes notched the assist on the goal. In their second match, sophomore Christine Nagel scored the lone goal on an assist from senior Sarah Skinner to give the Cowgirls a 1-0 win over Colorado College. Sunday, the Cowgirls tied and lost a game at the Southern California Premier Tournament in Berkeley, Calif. In their first match, San Diego beat the Cowgirls 1-2. Gomes tallied the goal off of an assist from sophomore Kristin Gurrola. The Cowgirls played Cal-Poly to a 1-1 tie in their final match of the weekend. Sophomore Doreen Thompson scored the lone Cowgirl goal on an assist from senior Melissa Bowman. "This was our best weekend all spring," said UW head coach Anne Moore. "We played well against a high level of competition. Our level of play is up, everyone is contributing and we are coming together as a team."
The Cowgirl spring season continues Saturday, April 24 as the
Cowgirls host Northern Colorado and Metro State at the UW Soccer
Stadium.
