Cowgirl Soccer Rolls in Spring Tournament
April 17, 2004
Laramie, Wyo. -- The University of Wyoming Cowgirl soccer team picked up a pair of wins, beating Northern Colorado 6-0 and Metro State 1-0, Saturday afternoon at the UW Soccer Stadium. With the wins, the Cowgirls close out the competitive portion of their spring with a 7-2-1 record. The Cowgirls started the day off with a bang, beating Northern Colorado 6-0. Senior Darci Ferrell led the Cowgirls with three goals. The first Cowgirl goal came when senior Lindsey Vossbrink scored on the rebound of a shot by senior Melissa Bowman. Vossbrink then found fellow senior Mari Gomes on a great play for the second Cowgirl goal. Gomes scored her second goal of the game on a rebound off of a hard shot by sophomore Christine Nagel to put the Cowgirls up 3-0. Ferrell then took over the offensive end scoring three consecutive goals. Her first came on an assist from Bowman, her second on an assist from junior Celia White and she completed her hat-trick on an assist from sophomore Natasha Swan. In their second match, the Cowgirl defense needed just one goal to secure a 1-0 win over Metro State. Gomes scored early in the second half on an assist from Vossbrink to give the Cowgirls the win. "In the first game our shooting was awesome," said UW head coach Anne Moore. "We moved the ball very well today and our back four played extremely well. "Overall, we played hard and worked very well as a unit. It was a great way to finish up the spring."
The Cowgirls will play one final spring game, an Alumni game next
Saturday, April 24. The game is set to begin at 10 a.m. and will run
in conjuncture with the spring football game which is set for 1 p.m.
Both games will be held at the UW Soccer Stadium
