LARAMIE, Wyo. -

The National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) recently awarded three Wyoming student-athletes with their annual All-America Strength and Conditioning award. Amanda Lathrop of Cowgirl soccer, Sharon Larrier of Cowgirl track and field, and Alex Rieder of Cowboy wrestling were recognized for their dedication to strength and conditioning training.

Lathrop, a Lakewood, Colo., native, was selected by strength coach Kathy Crowe-Wagner. "Amanda is a coach's dream. She has a great work ethic and willingness to do whatever it takes to improve," said Wagner. "She is a leader in the weight-room and is pound for pound one of the strongest female athletes at Wyoming."

Larrier hails from St. Phillips, Barbados, and competes in sprint events for the Cowgirls. "Sharon was one of the few sprinters that stayed in town to train over the summer and did not miss a single training session," said strength coach Robert Hartman. "Sharon's commitment to the weight room and her understanding of where it fits into her preparation is why I chose to nominate Sharon."

Rieder was also nominated by Hartman for the award. Rieder is a Paonia, Colo., native, and competes in the 165-pound weight class. "Alex's hard work and attitude towards training earned him the title or weight room leader," said Hartman. "The most impressive aspect of Alex's training is that his dedication to the program this past year has made visual improvements to his abilities on the mat."

The NSCA honored a total of 207 collegiate athletes from 116 schools this year. The program is in its 30th year, and is made possible by a grant from Power Systems, Inc., a Knoxville, Tenn., Fitness product leader.
