Cowgirls Fall In Weekend Opener

PORTLAND, Oregon -
The Wyoming Cowgirl tennis team opened up the weekend with a disappointing 4-3 loss to the Portland Pilots on Friday in Portland, Oregon. The Cowgirls fall to 3-3 overall in dual play while the Pilots earn their first victory of the season moving to 1-6 overall.
Portland started off the match on a high note by taking the doubles point by winning two of the three matches. The number three team of Gwen Moser and Patricia Chien earned a hard fought 9-8 (11-9) victory over Rebecca Correll and Jacklyn Soltysik. Unfortunately, the team of Jen Hancock and Yuliani Santi lost to Sanja Indic and Cristin Sammis 9-8 (5) as did Karolina Rowinski and Amy Senko against the team of Kaori Tanabe and Alyson Tyson, 8-2.
In singles play, it would come down to the final match of the day to determine the winner. Sophomore Patricia Chien won in two sets, 6-1, 6-2, over Sanja Indic at the No. 1 position. Karolina Rowinski also came away with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Jacklyn Soltysik as did Amy Senko in a three set match, 6-2, 3-6, 6-4, against Alyson Tyson. At the No. 2 spot Portland's Kaori Tanabe battled Yuliani Santi to a three set win, 3-6, 6-1, 6-2, while Cristin Sammis defeated Jennifer Hancock, 6-1, 6-2. In the last match of the day at the No. 6 spot, it would be Deirdre Ring-Marrison with a 7-6 (3), 6-2 straight set win over Megan Williams to help the Pilots pull out the 4-3 win.
