Cowgirl Tennis Closes Out Weekend at Air Force

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Complete Results in PDF Format The Wyoming Cowgirl tennis team wrapped up their final day of competition at the Air Force Academy Invitational in Colorado Springs on Saturday. "I was very pleased with the play of our doubles teams over the weekend," said UW head coach Krissy Hall. "I thought we have been improving and it showed in our play." In singles play, the Cowgirls went 3-3 overall. Cowgirl Corina Lazar defeated Lauren Wilson of Air Force, 6-0, 6-2, to take third place in her bracket. Freshman Carly Van Hollen defeated her opponent Lindsey Wiseman of Memphis, 6-1, 6-1, while Jamie Nelson earned a 4-6, 6-2, 10-5 win over Molly Knox. Wyoming's Rebecca Berger fell in three sets, 6-3, 1-6, 10-3 against Julia Bauregger of Denver, as did Carolina Chaix, 6-0, 6-0, against Ekin Zafir of Memphis. Senior Michelle Brown also lost, 6-2, 6-3, in her match against Janet Durham.
In flight three doubles play, the team of Carolina Chaix and Jamie Nelson defeated Roberts and Ballus of Texas Tech, 8-6, and then defeated Ondeck and Wiseman of Memphis, 8-6, to win the bracket. Rebecca Berger and Corina Lazar lost to van der Drift and Potgieter, 8-4, but came back with an 8-1 win over Rudico and Monreal of Air Force. The final doubles team for the Cowgirls, Michelle Brown and Carly Van Hollen, defeated Raun and Wainwright, 8-2, but fell to Shortridge and Sarkis of Air Force, 8-4.
The Cowgirls will close out the fall season next week at the Central Regional Tournament in Tulsa, Okla. |
