April 12, 2000

LARAMIE, Wyo. -

University of Wyoming head volleyball coach Susan Judge announced the signing of one student-athlete to a national letter of intent to attend the University of Wyoming in the fall of 2000. Here is the signee:

Katy Brown, 5-10, Setter, West Covina, Calif.: A three-time letterwinner in volleyball at South Hills High School in West Covina, Calif. As a senior, she helped lead her team to the state finals for the first time in school history, plus three undefeated Valle Vista conference championships. She earned First Team All-Region and All-State honors in that same season, and as team captain was the team and conference Most Valuable Player. She was coached in high school by Charm Doyle. Brown was also a two-year letterwinner in basketball. An excellent student, she is a member of the National Honor Society and was very active in student council. Katy is the daughter of Steve and Andrea Brown. She was recruited by other schools including Rutgers, Cal-Poly and the University of Alaska.

"We are excited to add another player in the setter position to our roster," Head Volleyball Coach Susan Judge said. "Katy is a very self motivated and energetic athlete. She has a never say die attitude, which is essential for athletes to compete at this level. She also has a strong high school and club background, which should lend itself well in her fitting in at Wyoming."

Brown is the fourth student-athlete to sign a letter of intent with the Cowgirls this season. The other signees include Melissa Robinett (6-3, El Paso, Texas), Lori Sanford (6-4, Chadron, Neb.), and Stefanie Snyder (5-9, Alexandria, Minn.).
