July 10, 2000

LARAMIE, Wyo. -

University of Wyoming head volleyball coach Susan Judge announced today the hiring of Phuong Luong as an assistant coach with the Cowgirl volleyball program. His hiring is subject to UW Board of Trustee approval.

Luong joins the Wyoming staff after spending two seasons as an assistant coach at Northeastern University in Boston, Mass. During that time, he was also the head coach of the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's volleyball program. He coached the team to a 32-17 record over those two seasons, plus a 14th place final ranking in the AVCA Division III poll in 2000. Prior to Northeastern, Luong was an assistant with the University of New Hampshire and helped coordinate the New Hampshire Seacoast Junior Olympic Volleyball Program.

As an undergraduate, he played four years on the Ferris State men's club team. Luong is a graduate of Ferris State University, earning a bachelor's degree in business management from there in 1995.

"Phuong comes from Northeastern University, a program that is coming off two 20-plus win seasons, and has been a big part of building their success," Judge said. "I think he gained valuable experience in developing success in that program, and will provide a lot of energy coming to Wyoming."
