Aug. 27, 1999

LARAMIE, Wyo. -

The 1999 volleyball season is fast approaching for the Wyoming Cowgirls as they start wrapping up their fall drills.

The Cowgirls are in the midst of three-a-day practices, which head coach Susan Judge says will tapper off over the weekend.

“I think our preseason practices have been one of accomplishment. We’ve had a lot to work on, because of our experience level,” said head volleyball coach Susan Judge. “We have several new faces and returning players with a limited amount of court time, therefor causing us to not have an established level of consistency, which will come over time. Everyday we learn something new and will progress over the season, which happens with such a young team. We’ve certainly had some good practices, nice performances and good things are happening, and will continue to put our team together.”

The pressure will be put on early as the Cowgirls start the season on the road. They will play the Denver Pioneers on Wed., Sept. 1, and in the Wake Forest Deacon Invite on Sept. 3-4.

“It will definitely be a challenging week. One that is probably very appropriate for what we need as a team and that's competition,” Judge said “The kids need to be out there playing and working on match production instead of practice. After the strenuous schedule this preseason, it's hard to maintain a level of enthusiasm one practice after another. It will be a good week for us as far as level of competition. All the teams are competitive and will keep us on our toes and that's were we need to start.”

The Cowgirls will hold an alumni match tomorrow, Aug. 28th. The match will start at 3:30 p.m. in the MultiPurpose Gym.
