Cowgirls Open Up Home Schedule: The Wyoming Cowgirl Volleyball team will open up their home season this weekend with two non-conference match-ups and the Cowgirl Classic. They will host Utah State on Thurs. night at 7:00 p.m. in the MPG. Wyoming will then host Pittsburgh, Xavier, and UW-Green Bay, on Friday and Saturday, at the Cowgirl Classic. They will close out the weekend on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. against Loyola-Chicago.
About Last Week: The Cowgirls wrapped up their weekend at the Panther Invitational with a 2-1 record, which moved them to 4-4 overall. They started off the weekend with a 3-0 loss (6-15, 12-15, 13-15) to the host team UW-Milwaukee in the opening match of the Panther Invitational on Friday night. The Cowgirls seem to start out the match slowly and struggled to gain their footing, which allowed the home team to take the early 9-2 lead. Scoring only four more points in the game, the Panthers took a 15-6 first game victory. Wyoming managed to stay close in game two, but once again UW-Milwaukee jumped on the Cowgirls mistakes. Down 13-6, a very determined Cowgirl team put up a fight to close the gap to 13-12, but fell just short to go down 0-2 in the match. Unfortunately, a comeback wasn't in the cards tonight with a 15-13 win by the Panthers. The Cowgirls made it close leading at one point 13-12, but it was to little to late. Sophomore middle blocker Larissa Cattanach led the way for UW-Milwaukee (11 kills and four blocks) and Laura Dallenbach (12 kills, .280%), to move to 3-1 overall on the season. Wyoming was led by senior middle blocker Melody Friehauf, who finished the match with nine kills, five block assists and a .438 hitting percentage. Jamie Burke also added nine kills and seven digs. In the second two matches of the weekend, the Cowgirls evened up their record today with victories over Austin Peay and Portland to finish out the Panther Invitational on Saturday in Milwaukee. Wyoming defeated Austin Peay 3-0 (15-13, 15-10, 15-9) in the first match of the day. The Cowgirls were led by Jamie Burke, who finished with 15 kills and nine digs. Coach's Quotes: Quotes from University of Wyoming head volleyball coach Susan Judge. About UW-Milwaukee: "This was a disappointing loss for the Cowgirls. I had hoped to come out with a lot more fire and zest in our play coming off of our victory against UT-Arlington. Jamie Burke played very aggressively, and it was nice to see her play with that intensity. Jansen Siplon came in and played very hard, and Melody Friehauf also put up some good numbers. There just wasn't enough chemistry tonight, and unfortunately that is going to be a key to our success." About Austin Peay/Portland: "I'm certainly pleased to have two victories under our belt, and to be going home .500. I think Melody Friehauf had a very nice day offensively, and really helped us pick up our blocking with her effort. I was pleased with the way we came back in the second match of the day, and play competitive volleyball and take control of the match. Overall, we played more aggressively over the weekend, which was something we needed to accomplish in this tournament."
KLDI Radio 1210 AM to Broadcast Cowgirl Home Matches Live: For the sixth season,Wyoming Volleyball home matches will be broadcast live on KLDI Radio 1210 AM in Laramie.
