2000 Cowgirl Volleyball Informational Press Release And Game Notes
Nov. 6, 2000 LARAMIE, Wyo. - Probable Starters: Here are the probable starters for this week's matches: Cowgirls Play Final Conference Matches On The Road: The Wyoming Cowgirl Volleyball team play their final two regular season conference matches this weekend. They will see UNLV on Thursday night at 8:00 p.m., MST and San Diego State on Saturday at 8:00 p.m., MST.
About UNLV: Wyoming will face the UNLV Rebels on Thursday night. The Rebels are currently 4-17 overall and 4-8 in the conference. Leiana Oswald leads the way for UNLV, averaging 3.54 kills and 1.93 digs per game. This is the tenth meeting between the two teams, Wyoming leads the series 6-3. The Rebels defeated the Cowgirls, 3-0, earlier this season in Laramie. The Rebels are coached by Deitre Collins, who is in her fifth season at UNLV.
About San Diego State: The Cowgirls will face the San Diego State Aztecs in their final match of the weekend. They are currently 16-11 overall and 8-4 in the conference. Senior outside hitter Monet Solberg leads the way for the Aztecs averaging 3.11 kills and 2.15 digs per game. This is the 20th meeting between the two schools, San Diego State leads 17-2. They defeated the Cowgirls, 3-2, earlier in the season in Laramie. The Aztecs are coached by Mark Warner, who is in his sixth season at San Diego State.

Friehauf Moves Into First Place In Career Blocks: Senior middle blocker Melody Friehauf continues her move into the Wyoming Top 10 in blocks and kills during the 2000 season. On Tuesday, Oct. 24 against Denver University, Friehauf overtook first place in career blocks with a match high 11 blocks. With 154 on the season, she currently has 601 in her illustrious career. She overtook Kristina Dzelme, who previously held the mark with 573. She has also moved into the top ten in kills at number three with 1,262 kills. Friehuaf, from Windsor, Colo., is a three-year starter and two-time All-Conference Player. She was named the MWC Player of the Week twice, and earned All-Tournament honors three times.
