Nov. 21, 2000

LARAMIE, Wyo. -

University of Wyoming head volleyball coach Susan Judge today announced the signing of three student-athletes to national letters of intent to attend the University of Wyoming beginning in the fall of 2001. Here are the signees:

Vanessa Latimer, 5-11, Outside Hitter/Rightside Hitter, Boise, Idaho: A two-time All-Conference and Most Valuable Player selection at Timberline High School in Boise, Idaho. She also earned varsity letters in basketball and track. She was a state qualifier in four track and field events over the past three seasons. Vanessa was coached by Jessica Ackley. An excellent student, she has been an honor roll selection. Latimer chose Wyoming over the University of Portland and Appalachian State. The daughter of Stan Latimer and Marsha Bracke.

"Vanessa is a good all-around athlete, and will make a great addition to our outside hitter position," said head coach Susan Judge. "She is an outgoing young lady, who sets high standards for herself, academically and athletically. I think she will compete very well for one of our outside hitter spots, which relies heavily on stable ball control and athletic versatility. She is the kind of player that can step in and fill many roles for her team."

Sara Maytorena, 6-0, Outside Hitter, Parker, Colo.: A two-time First Team All-League selection at Ponderosa High School in Parker, Colo. She also earned Second Team and Honorable Mention All-League honors. As a sophomore, Maytorena helped her team to a Continental Conference Championship. Sara was coached in high school by Rob Graham. She was recruited by several schools including the University of Texas, Wichita State, TCU and SMU. One of four children of Jose and Cindy Maytorena.

"I am really looking forward to the competitiveness that Sara will bring to the Cowgirl Squad," said head coach Susan Judge. "Beyond her physical talents, this athlete possesses many of the intangibles that coaches and teammates hope for. I love her toughness and overwhelming desire to play volleyball. She brings good size and strength to the outside hitter position, an area we have focused on, with only one experienced athlete returning. She trains with one of the most intense club programs in the country, so has an idea of what she will encounter at this level. With a big swing and good ball control, she will add tremendous strength to her position."

Amy Doman, 5-9, Setter, Brentwood, Tenn.: A three-time All-District and All-Region selection at Brentwood High School in Brentwood, Tenn. She also earned All-State honors twice. Doman helped her team to the Tennessee state championship three seasons in a row, and the District and Regional Championships four times. A four-year letterwinner in volleyball, she was a two-time letterwinner in softball. She was coached in high school by Barbara Campbell. An excellent student, she has been on the honor roll for the past three years. Amy is the daughter of Frank and Kathy Doman. She chose Wyoming over several schools.

"Amy is an exciting sign for us," said coach Judge. "She isn't extremely tall at 5'9", but she is an excellent athlete and makes her role look effortless. I was impressed with the offense she already has experience running with her high school and club team. She is capable of quarterbacking this young Cowgirl team to new heights and strengthening our core of setters. Amy is also used to winning, coming off a repeat state championships and breaking numerous records."

Overall, Judge is very pleased with the newcomers she has signed for the 2001 season.

"All three of these recruits have tremendous potential. They are mature and driven competitors. Not only will they push themselves to be the best that they can be, but will also push their teammates. This is a crucial element for us to continue building our program."
